I have taken a lot of photos of Philadelphia and important areas within the city like like Rittenhouse Square, Washington Square and Love Park over the years. That is why I chose to create a blog to share my photos and also to write about photography.
Most bloggers will choose a niche or subject area that they are interested in or want to promote, and then over time as they build up a great catalogue of content their audience will grow. Who is a Video Blogger/Vlogger?
The Vlogger is the newest addition to the world of blogging. A ‘Vlogger’, or Video Blogger, is someone who creates video posts for their Vlog rather than textual or image based posts. This new field of blogging has been flourishing recently with the widespread ownership of relatively high quality cameras. Many Vloggers will use their phone camera to start out but usually end up upgrading their equipment to create better videos and posts.
Vloggers cover all kinds of topics from journal type Vlogs that document the person’s own life and adventures, to travel Vlogs that showcase world holiday destinations, business and e-commerce Vlogs that give hints and tips for other entrepreneurs and cooking Vlogs that teach cooking and recipes!
It’s an exciting and fast moving new field and successful Vloggers can have regular audiences in the millions!
Who is a photo blogger?
A photo blogger is someone who creates a blog that is focused on photography rather than text although the posts are laid out in the usual reverse chronological order. This is a great medium for photographers to get valuable feedback on their work as well as build up an audience and grow their influence.
Photo bloggers can use their platform to sell their own work or advertise their own services. Alternatively, a photo blog can be run by a keen hobbyist who runs the blog without any commercial motivations.
How do bloggers make money?
There are several main ways that bloggers can ‘monetize’ their work and start making money from their blog. Before a blogger can successfully do this though they will usually need to build up a nice selection of relevant and informative content on their site and begin attracting an audience.
How to build an audience on your blog?
Make use of the incredible power of Social Media and leverage that to attract new viewers to your site. You can set up groups on sites like Facebook to help you build up a community and then post your blog posts onto the group page so that people who are already interested in that subject will visit your blog to learn more.
You can use paid advertising, either on Social Media, on Google, Bing or elsewhere to target people who are interested in the subject that you are blogging about. This is a powerful tool however the associated costs of paying for advertising means that it may be something to do later once your blog is a little more established.
Consistency is key! It’s important that you continue to update your blog regularly with useful, informative and interesting information, stories or features. This will keep your audience coming back and position you as a leader or expert in your chosen field.
How to Make Money from your Blog?
Monetizing your blog is easy to do and there are many ways that you can approach this. Of course the larger your audience is then the more effectively you can monetize your blog!
- You can sell advertising space on your blog. To do this you can use Google Adsense where you will be paid per click on the advert or alternatively you can make arrangements privately with companies or other individuals to let them advertise on your blog in return for payment.
- A popular way of monetizing a blog is to become an Affiliate Partner with established companies in the same niche as your blog. So for example if you are running a Sports blog you could become an affiliate partner with a running shoe company and then sell their items on your site, and for each sale you would receive a percentage as commission.
- You can sell educational materials that you have made, usually in the form of e-Books or video tutorials. If you are an expert in your field this is a very profitable way to monetize your blog in part because you are selling a completely unique product.
- You can create exclusive content on your blog that only premier members can access. In this way you can sell memberships to your audience who want to see more!
- You can use your blog as a platform to sell your own services. For example a writer of a political blog may use their blog to advertise their freelance writing services or a wedding photo blog may use the platform to sell wedding photography services
These are some of the more common ways to monetize your blog and most people will use more than one technique at a time to maximize their income. To increase your chances of success it is worth paying attention to SEO (Search Engine Optimization) which will help to drive consistent organic search traffic to your blog.
The Art and Business of Blogging.
Blogging is an incredible way to express your creativity as well as your entrepreneurial talents. There is a lot of competition though and it will usually take some time to see serious financial results from blogging, so don’t expect to make a million in the first weeks! Consistency is crucial as is providing high quality, informative and valuable content to your audience however with a little patience, hard work and drive you will succeed in the ‘blogosphere’!
