Rittenhouse Square is one of the five original squares of Philadelphia. The square is in the Center City neighborhood of Philadelphia and is close to Market Street and JFK Boulevard, where most of the major companies have their offices. Read my article on Rittenhouse Square for additional information about how to get to the square, where to park and things to see. I also have an article on places to stay in Rittenhouse Square.
One of the best days to visit the square is on Saturday. There are a few reasons for it. The restaurants that are around the square like the Parc, Devon Seafood and the Marathon on the Square offer great brunch options. When the weather outside is warm, Rittenhouse Square is also a popular picnic sport for the residents of Center City during the weekends.
On Saturday, there is also a Farmers’ Market in Rittenhouse Square. The Farmers’ Market will typically be on the 18th Street Side of the square and also the Walnut Street side of the square (in front of the Barnes and Noble).
The Farmers’ Market is organized by a company called Farm to City. Farm to City’s goal is to “Unite communities, families, and farmers year-round through good locally grown food“. Farm to City operates several Farmers’ Markets in and around the city of Philadelphia. Some of the locations are University Square, Jefferson, Bryn Mawr and Chestnut Hill.
Rittenhouse Square Farmers’ Market schedule
The Farmers’ Market opens on Saturday’s at 9 AM and normally closes at 3 PM. The Market is on throughout the year on Saturdays except a few weeks during winter. I have noticed that the size of the market (number of stalls that are open) is typically larger during summer than during winter.
