Events videography is a thriving industry that is growing in demand as corporate events organizers seek to make the most of the special days they have planned. Creating a permanent video record of the highlights, the venue and the action of the day is a fantastic team building tool for the company and helps to make the event feel more valuable, even after the day is done.
Event videography began with wedding shoots but has grown to encompass a much wider range of scenarios. Everything from sporting competitions, corporate team building days and even Prom nights now regularly employ a professional videography to capture the highlights of the event.
As a videographer you can provide the precious service of recording the event while leveraging an excellent salary in an exciting, fast paced and interesting work environment.
The pressure to get things right is pretty intense because ultimately you only have one chance to get things done to the client’s satisfaction and so it might not be for everybody, but if you can think on your feet then you’ll thrive in this sector.
Many videographers work in a small crew which allows them to capture multiple camera angles on the day and helps to ensure that everything important is filmed and recorded for the final cut of the video which will be delivered to the client.
What Are The Benefits Of Videoing an Event?
There are many reasons why a company or organisation can reap huge rewards from having a professionally produced video of the events they run; and whether that’s a company team building day or a major conference, the benefits simply can’t be ignored.

5 Types of Corporate Events Videography.
Corporate conferences and events are one the most important sectors for professional videographers to be aware of. They are regular events on the corporate calendar and play a major role in team building, brand awareness and internal company communication.
- Promotional Videos: A promotional video of a corporate event is used to market and advertise it. It’s a bit like a movie trailer or advert and aims to showcase the topics that will be covered at the corporate event or conference. It should mention any keynote speakers, special guests and unique features of the upcoming event. It aims to highlight things that will make the attendees look forward to going and should be short, compact, well edited and full of energy! The promotional video can be sent out to the guests before the event by email and posted on social media pages.
- Opening Video for a Conference: At the start of a conference a company may well want to have an opening video which welcomes the attendees and gives them a quick low down of what to expect. It may include a few short clips of interviews with the corporate management, major speakers or guests and a few short scenes of the venue. The video should be concise and engaging without stealing the thunder from the actual event itself. The opening video may also detail the order of events for the conference and the list speakers and their qualifications.
- Event Live Streaming: In many cases the organizers may want to live stream the event, or at least certain parts of it, to interested parties that could not attend due to venue capacity or travel restrictions. You’ll need to set up in advance and have a detailed time table of the events so that you know when you should be recording and when it’s not necessary. To create higher quality live streaming multiple camera angles can really help to bring the event to life on the stream.
- Highlights Reel: This is a video that is published after the event and is used for marketing, brand awareness and team bonding purposes. The highlights reel will include clips of the venue, the entertainment, speakers and even cut scenes of the dining experience and after conference drinks at the bar! The highlights reel should encapsulate the vibe of the event and make people who missed it wish they were there!
- Testimonials: This is a type of video that is used to promote the event and the company that put it on. Testimonials are gathered from attendees, customers and visitors and edited together to create a positive collection of individual points of view. As part of the testimonial video it can be a good idea to record a few short statements from the management, keynote speakers and special guests to spice up the content and draw more interest. The testimonial video will often be used for marketing and be shared on social media and the company’s websites.
Pricing Event Videography.
Each event that you record will be different and so you’ll have to price your services accordingly. Nonetheless there are a few general principles that you can work around to establish a fair price for your services.
- Type of Event: What type of event are you filming? How complex is the camera work and how long is the event? You’ll need to calculate how many hours you’ll be working for and whether or not you’ll need more than one cameraperson working at once. For instance, filming a college football game for the team’s coach to review afterwards will take a few hours and require only one camera angle whereas a large conference may require several cameras and take 12 hours to cover all the speakers, entertainment and events.
- Location and Travel: Where is the event? Do you have to travel to get there? If so you should be incorporating the costs of travel into your fee. This should also include parking costs at the venue, if they apply, and accommodation if you are required to stay the night to film multiple days of an event.
- Time of the Year: Depending on when the event takes place you may have to charge different fees. In the world of corporate events you can charge more around the Christmas and New Year period than in quieter times such as March or April. This is because you will be in higher demand during the holiday periods and so you must reflect this in your pricing structure.
- Your Personal Experience and Portfolio: If you are already well established in the videography industry then you will be able to leverage a higher fee however if you are relatively new then you will need to accept a lower price for your services until you build up a strong reputation and solid back catalog of work.
Event Videography is an Opportunity You Can’t Afford to Miss.
Event videography is a fantastic field to work in and if you are a versatile, creative and high energy entrepreneur you can make a great career of it. When you’re starting out you’ll want to put together a portfolio of events that you have filmed and create some high quality edited videos, highlight reels and promotional pieces as examples of your work.
At the very beginning you may have to work on a volunteer basis or as an assistant videographer for a more established freelancer to get your foot in the door. However, very soon you will find that your effort has paid off as you receive regular requests from new clients. Be sure to put together an effective marketing strategy to showcase your work and get your name out there!
