Which State is Philadelphia in? I get this question a lot particularly on Instagram. Philadelphia is in the State of Pennsylvania (PA). Pennsylvania is one of the most important states within the United States of America. Pennsylvania is the fifth largest American state in terms of population with almost 12.8 million people. California, Texas, Florida and New York are the top four.
Pennsylvania is the six largest state in terms of Gross Domestic Produce (GDP). The GDP of Pennsylvania is almost $825 billion (California, Texas, New York and Florida are the top five states).
Philadelphia is the largest city in Pennsylvania (sixth largest city in the United States after New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston and Phoenix). It is in the southeastern most corner of the state and borders the State of New Jersey (several bridges connect the City of Philadelphia with the State of New Jersey). The border of the City is also very close to Wilmington, which is the most important city in the State of Delaware.
From Philadelphia you can travel to New York City, Trenton (Capital of New Jersey), Princeton, Wilmington or Baltimore faster than you can travel to Harrisburg, which is the Capital of Pennsylvania. From Philadelphia you can travel to Washington DC in about 3 hours. In comparison, it will take almost five hours to get from Philadelphia to the second largest city in Pennsylvania, which is Pittsburgh.
From Philadelphia it is also very easy to travel to the coastal towns of New Jersey like Atlantic City, Cape May, Wildwood and Ocean City. Going to the Jersey Shore is a popular thing to do during Summer.
Which county is Philadelphia in?
The Center City neighborhood of Philadelphia was the City of Philadelphia until 1854. In 1854, the boundary of Philadelphia was extended to match the boundary of the County of Philadelphia. So, Philadelphia is in Philadelphia County and they have the same boundary.
Things to do in Philadelphia.
I have written an article about my favorite things to do in Philadelphia. You should visit Independence Hall, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Reading Terminal Market, Washington Square, Rittenhouse Square and Boathouse Row.
Traveling from Philadelphia to New York City.
Philadelphia, PA and New York City are barely 90 miles away from each other. Thousands of people travel between the two cities every day. There are many different ways to travel between the two cities.
Neighborhoods of Philadelphia.
Philadelphia is a city of neighborhoods like New York. The main neighborhoods of the city are Center City, South Philadelphia, University City, West Philadelphia, North Philadelphia, Germantown and Northeast Philadelphia.
What is the best neighborhood to live in Philadelphia?
Philadelphia is a very inexpensive City to live when you compare it to New York City, Washington DC or other big American cities like Chicago, Los Angeles or Houston. For example you can buy a one bedroom condominium in the Rittenhouse Square neighborhood for less than $350,000. Rittenhouse Square is one of the best neighborhoods in the entire United States.
Overall Center City Philadelphia is a very good neighborhood to live in. Outside of Center City, I like University City and also the areas around the Philadelphia Museum of Art. I also like some parts of South Philly and Northern Liberties. Center City is also one of the safest neighborhoods in Philadelphia. Center City is the second most populated downtown area in the United States after Midtown Manhattan.
Within Center City you have Chinatown, Washington Square, Society Hill, Old City, Rittenhouse Square, Logan Square and Fitler Square and Schuylkill Banks.
